Russian Oligarch’s Son Films Himself Chased by Police

The son of Azat Shamsuarov, a Russian billionaire and senior VP of Russia’s largest oil company Lukoil thought it was a great idea to film himself and his friends in a police chase. Ruslan Shamsuarov aged 20 was driving around in Moscow in his £110,000 Mercedes G-63 AMG with friends when police signalled them to stop the car. Shamsuarov’s friend who was driving allegedly ignored the police, and instead accelerated the luxury vehicle. The media later reported that the friends were seen leaving a nightclub in the car before the police attempted to stop them.

A Dramatic Six Car Chase Ensues

Their refusal to pull over led to a chase that involved six police cars trailing the Mercedes at high speed while it was breaking several traffic laws. As they were speeding away, Shamsuarov started filming the high speed pursuit, and broadcasting it on Periscope. The world could see the events unfold and hear the other passengers, who were making rude comments. One traveler jokingly says that the policeman is a piece of s***, and that they are on their way to find other police officers to find out why they dared to try stop them. Later in the chase the youths try to further provoke the officer who attempted to stop them by returning to the place where they were standing and turning around through double white lines.

A not so Dramatic Ending

After around ten minutes of playing cat and mouse with the Russian police the young men decided to abandon the Mercedes and make their way on foot through the park where they were eventually apprehended. The group made a final live video stream of the police checking their IDs. According to the media, the wealthy young man was fined 5,000 rubles, which is equivalent to around £50 – literally a drop in the ocean for a billionaire’s son. Besides the fine, Shamsuarov also apologised in an interview with Life News in which he said that his friend kept going because he didn’t want to appear weak. The young man also shut down all his social media accounts. Who knows whether this was out of true remorse, or pressure from his wealthy father threatening to cut off the £50s.
