Does Sir Elton Prefer the Ruskis over the Yanks?

In late 2016 it was announced that Sir Elton John and his fancy piano would be shipped from England to the United States to play at Donald Trump’s inauguration. Well the presidential induction came and went and the award-winning English musician was not there.

John Refused

Although he did not publically proclaim his lack of support for Trump, Elton John is known as an unabashed supporter of Hillary Clinton, and had previously stated that he would ‘fear for the world’ if Trump had to win the elections. So where did the singer perform in January?

Not Even Trump Can Trump a Russian Wedding

Instead of zipping off to the United States to sing for the new President, Sir Elton John stayed in the United Kingdom where he performed at a ridiculously extravagant party with fellow superstar Mariah Carey. The gig was the wedding of Daniel Kevey and Irene Kogan, who is the 19-year old granddaughter of the airport magnate and Russian oligarch Valery Kogan. Of course the two musicians were paid millions to do their thing at the Landmark Hotel in London where a suite can cost as much as £1,450 a night. They were also only some of the celebrities at the fancy party where Mark Ronson was the resident DJ and Antonio Banderas gave a speech.

Is Elton John a Hypocrite?

It is indeed strange how the superstar previously refused to perform at the Winter Olympic Games in Russia in 2014 (supposedly because of Putin’s controversial policies on gay rights in Russia) – and yet he had no qualms about getting paid by a Russian oligarch for playing at a Russian wedding. Perhaps Trump couldn’t come up with John’s fees which is rumoured to be at the very least £1 million – the kind of money that wouldn’t make a dent in the average oligarch’s pocket.
